Inter-Municipal Development Plan

The Town of Bowden and Red Deer County have developed an Intermunicipal Development Plan (IDP) which is broad based policy document that assists both municipalities to make neighbouring land use planning decisions based on mutual interests and without negatively impacting each community.

Land use planning decisions made by both the Town and Red Deer County affect and influence one another and the benefit of the IDP is that both municipalities work together as one mutually supportive organization.

Positive relations, achieved through communication, consultation and cooperation, can provide many opportunities to share resources, achieve economic development goals and reduce the costs of providing municipal and community services.

Fire & Rescue, Weed Control, Road Maintenance and Bylaw Enforcement are examples of services provided by Red Deer County to the Town of Bowden achieved through inter-municipal planning and cooperation.

The Town of Bowden and Red Deer County have entered into a Municipal Services Agreement that allows Red Deer County to provide the following planning & development services:

  1. Development Services
  2. Subdivision Development Services
  3. Safety Codes Services
  4. Subdivision and Development Appeal Board Services
