Deadlines and Penalties

Deadlines

1

Property taxes are due for payment in full by 30 June 2024.

Property owners should ensure that payments are made before the deadline.

If you pay by mail (cheque) you must ensure that the letter is postmarked on or prior to 30th June.

It is the taxpayer’s responsibility to ensure that all online payments are processed by 30th June.

Where Property Taxes are paid directly by a mortgage company the property owner is responsible for ensuring that the tax payment is made before the tax due date.

2

The deadline for 2024 property assessment appeals is 20 July 2024.

Penalties

If you do not make your payment on time (in full) by June 30th you will be charged a 12% penalty on the remaining balance.

Current year taxes and penalties (combined) that remain unpaid by 31 December 2024 become "tax arrears" and are subject to a further tax penalty of 15% effective 1 January 2025.

Any property to which property tax has been in arrears for more than one year will be subject to tax recovery proceedings as legislated in the Municipal Government Act.
